Audible Books Count as Reading
I’ve set a goal to read 50 books this year. I’m using Goodreads to track my progress. So far, just a few days into the new year, I’ve completed two books. Yay me!
A few thoughts on this:
Audible books count toward the goal. I’ve decided that for me, Audible books count toward my goal of “reading” 50 books. Is it technically reading? No, of course not. But really, my goal is to benefit from the knowledge of the book. So for that, Audible works just fine.
Short books count. Look, if you want to read 50 books in one year, that’s almost one book a week. To stay on that kind of pace, I’ll need some help. Enter short books. Short books on Kindle, for example, are generally less than 60 to 90 minutes of reading time. So you can bang one out faster. I’ve read some really good short books that focused on teaching one idea, and they were excellent. I’ve also read some short books that had no focus and just meandered for an hour. Not a fan of those. But since it’s only an hour of reading time, I’m okay with that.
I track when I finish the book. I started some books in 2023 but haven’t yet finished them. I’ve decided that I will count them in 2024 when I finish them. Seems fair to me.
As this week ends, I’m on target to finish my third book of the year, and I’m less than 10 days in. This may result in a new goal: see how soon in the month I can finish the four books pace for the month.
Stayed tuned and read (or listen?) all about it.
