Did I “Unthink” Having COVID?

So I lay in bed on a Friday night, the day before flying home to Los Angeles. I was feeling flushed, and slight rundown. One thought rang through my head: do I have COVID? And if so, will that impact my plans to fly?

To elaborate on my symptoms, I didn’t feel like I had a fever. There was no cough. No shortness of breath. No body aches. Basically, none of the classic symptoms of COVID. Still, I did feel kind of cruddy.

As I lay in bed, all kinds of “worse case” thoughts ran through my head. What if I do have it? Does my that mean that my wife and daughter also have it? How does this impact our travel plans? We had to wake up at 4am to get to the airport for a 6:55am flight. Would that now be a problem?

All these thoughts swirled through my mind, making me feel worse.

Yet one other thought occurred to me: trained thought is more powerful than untrained thought.

In Science of Mind, this is one of the core principles we teach. Your thoughts create your circumstances. And right then, in that moment, my thoughts were not being very helpful. So I decided to try something different.

Instead of thinking all these negative thoughts, I decided to turn things around. I thought to myself, “There is a part of me -- the spiritual part -- that is perfect health and vibrant energy. That part of me can never be sick. It knows only health. And THAT’S the part of me that I focus on right now. I amplify that part of me. I underscore that part of me. That’s who I am.”

And with that, I eased my mind back into a relaxed state that made it easier to fall asleep. And when the alarm went off at 4am, guess how I felt? Pretty good actually. A bit tired, but definitely not feeling any COVID symptoms.

Now before you think that I’m saying I used the power of my mind to ward off COVID, I’m not saying that. Perhaps I never actually had it. Maybe I was just super exhausted from a whirlwind week in New York.

But by using the power of my mind to affirm there is a part of me that is ALWAYS perfect health, I trained my thinking to relax on the worries about my health. This allowed me to calm down and get back to sleep. And that’s the power of trained thought.
